Possibly, it’s due of lingering economic changes that occurred from the recession, parents getting older and living longer, or diverse cultural norms. Whatever the reason, having a layer of privacy while accommodating (and keeping the peace) in the family promotes a happier atmosphere.
According to In 2014, a record 60.6 million people, or 19% of the U.S. population, lived with multiple generations under one roof, according to a recent analysis of Census data by the Pew Research Center.
In the long run it can be a win-win situation for all. The older adults may be able to watch their grandchildren, minimizing day care costs. The children can look after the parents without the added expenses of nursing home care. There are so many options. In fact, it may be ideal for adult children who are still living with their parents or have returned home.
