During this time of the year the Virginia Beach Farmers Market has an ice rink. Many of these skaters are attempting ice skating for the first time. From the size of the rink, it seems the perfect size for beginners and experienced ice skaters.
This is definitely something new for Virginia Beach, but if you’ve lived up north this is a sport that you may have grown up enjoying.
A lot of people who have gone to the ice rink said they never even knew the Virginia Beach Farmers Market existed. Well, now they do! There are also many shops and businesses surrounding the Farmers Market, so you can come for the skating and later shop or grab something to eat.
We love going to Gilly’s Creamery in the warmer months. They’ve decided to extend their own holiday hours to coincide with the ice rink’s hours. After ice skating head over to Gilly’s Creamery to enjoy some hot chocolate or ice cream. For me, ice cream is always in season!
MacArthur On Ice is a yearly event for all ice skaters at the MacArthur Mall, a shopping mall in Norfolk, Virginia. This popular and spacious mall has lots stores, events, and places to eat.
There are other places for ice skating in in Hampton Roads. One other place in Chesapeake that I don’t hear much about is Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex. This place is the official training facility of the Norfolk Admirals. If you’ve never skated before then this is the place to learn. They offer public and private classes from beginners to intermediate skaters and public skating sessions daily.
Learning how to skate is the safest and most fun way to enjoy this sport. The great thing about Chilled Ponds is that it’s open year round!
