I’ve been cleaning out my garage and threw out some things this week. However, I still have a few things I’m holding to donate, which I hope may help someone in need.

I’ve noticed that some thrift stores are opening up in my area. I’m unsure how thrift stores are handling safety and sanitary measures in response to the Coronavirus, so I contacted a few of them to get more information.

Donating Items During COVID-19? Are thrift stores accepting donations still or closing their doors for now? Are tax deductible receipts offered?

Here’s what I found out from the most popular local thrift store chains about accepting donations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disabled American Veterans Thrift Stores

Customers are required to wear masks when entering
Pickups are on hold until July
Tax-deductible receipts provided upon request

Goodwill Stores

Masks preferred, but not required
Dropped off donations placed in a designated area for 3 days before being put on the floor
Tax-deductible receipts provided upon request

Salvation Army

Workers are wearing masks and gloves
Drop off service available without leaving the car
Tax-deductible receipts provided

CHKD Thrift Stores

Closed for now
Advised not to leave donations out in front of their locations for the time being
