How did the Oscars get its name?
Legend has it that Academy librarian Margaret Herrick thought the statue resembled her Uncle Oscar. She later became the executive director. In 1934, a Hollywood column writer, Sidney Skolsky, used the name to describe Katharine Hepburn’s first best actress win. The name stuck and the Academy made the name official in 1939.

The Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 9th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California starting at 8 p.m. EST and 5 p.m. PST. The red carpet event before the show starts at 5 pm.
